Chew.

Blow.

Pop.

Dawn did that again and again with her bubblegum. Being bored was one thing but being stuck in school really wasn’t Dawn’s cup of tea. She hated it. The teachers, the so-called “learning environment”, and especially the students. Let’s face it. To Dawn, school was such a drag. But she only went because her best friend, Roseanae, goes there. And she didn’t want to leave her alone. So she stayed. Dawn sighed as she propped her feet on the desk and crossed her arms, staring out the window.

“Ms. Valentine, it would be nice if you paid attention in class.”

Dawn scoffed. Mr. Allen was an ass. He always harassed her about paying attention. Like that was important.

“I already know that stuff.”

“Oh really? Would you like to show the class then?”

Dawn narrowed her eyes, “Fine. I will.”

She hated when he did that. Making her get up and show the class some stupid math problem. She stands up and walks to the front, frowning.

“Can you show the class how to do problem number 3? And show all the work.”

Some of the students snickered as Dawn grabbed the dry erase marker from Mr. Allen’s hand and looks at the board.

“Have fun figuring it out,” sneered Mr. Allen as he turned and went to sit down at his desk. But before he can sit down, he stopped at the sound of a nonchalant voice.

“Done.”

He twirled around and his mouth left agape as he stared at the board, covered with division, multiplication, some addition and subtraction and at the bottom right corner of the board, was the answer to number 3. Dawn tossed the marker back in Mr. Allen and went back to her desk.

“But... but that was only 30 seconds.”

“I know. Fastest time so far.”

The class stayed silent until someone smart enough yelled out, “Mr. Allen got schooled!” And the class erupted into laughter while Mr. Allen tried to calm them down. Dawn smirked as she propped her feet again on her desk. She loved making her teachers look like idiots. The truth was, Dawn was smart. Really smart. But her teachers couldn’t take her seriously as her attitude proved otherwise. The class got more rowdy as the bell rang. Dawn sighed as she collected her books and shoved them in her schoolbag. She noticed Roseanae waiting for her at the door and went to meet her, her school bag sling over her shoulder.

“How was class?” asked Roseanae as Dawn walked passed her and she followed.

“Boring as fuck,” mumbled Dawn as she turned to her and started to walk backward, “Mr. Allen was being a little bitch again.”

Roseanae chuckled, “You still need to pay attention though.”

“But it’s so easy. I already know all the shit he teaches, “ huffed Dawn as she popped her bubblegum and placed her arms behind her head.

“You should really stop walking backwards before you bump into something.”

Dawn turned to walk straight and looked at her, “Stop worrying, Roseanae, geez. Nobody would have the balls to walk into me--!”

And with that, Dawn didn’t even finish her sentence as something huge collided with her at full speed. The hit knocked her off her feet, sending her crashing to the ground. Dawn heard a grunt and a curse and realized that her eyes were close from the impact.

“What the hell did I hit?! Ow!”

Dawn snapped her eyes open and stared at the face of a red-haired hedgehog. He wore the school uniform and the school’s jersey sweater, meaning that he was on the football team. He rubbed his head as he opened his eyes and all Dawn stared at was the color grey. His eyes were like the season, winter. Too bad Dawn only thought that for two seconds before anger stepped in and decided that he needs to get his face punched in. And Dawn agreed.

“Watch where the fuck you’re going, you asshole!” growled Dawn as she shoved him off her and quickly stood up.

“Who the hell are you calling an asshole?! You’re the one standing in the hallway like a dumbass!”

He was obviously pissed. But Dawn didn’t care. She clenched her fists as she lunged at him, knocking him to the ground. Teens in the hallway surrounded them, screaming the words, “Fight! Fight!” The red hedgehog was surprised that Dawn attacked him and grabbed her wrists, struggling as she fought back.

“Wooh, wooh! Calm down! I don’t want to hurt you!”

Dawn struggles from his grip and grits her teeth.

“You fuckin’ asshole! You picked the wrong bitch to fuck with!” She snatched her hand back and slapped him across the face.

That tipped him off.

He growled and swung his fist at her, but stopped as Dawn caught it with her hand.

“Don’t fuck with you, “ she sneered as she raised her hand again to punch him in the face. But that didn’t happen. Because now, the English teacher, Ms. Crowmore, grabbed her hand.

“Fighting in the hallway, Ms. Dawn?”

Dawn narrowed her eyes at the red hedgehog before getting off him. “He started it.”

The hedgehog’s eyes widen as he quickly stood up. “My fault?! She attacked me!”

Ms. Crowmore shook her head as she pulled out a pink pad and pen, “Detention for fighting, Ms. Dawn and Mr. Hyper.”

Hyper groaned as Dawn scoffed. Detention was whatever. She always gets it. No big whoop. But it seemed like Hyper did not like that idea. Hell, it looked like he haven't been to it for a while, let alone his whole life.

“Detention is after school, in my class. Don’t show up and you’ll be sent to the principal’s office, “ said Ms. Crowmore as she handed Dawn and Hyper pink slips and headed back to her classroom, shooing wandering students to their classes, including Roseanae. Dawn stared at the pink slip before grabbing her bag off the ground and makes her way to the restroom to fix herself.

“Hey wait!” Hyper grabbed her hand and Dawn glared at him.

“What the hell do you want, you ass?” growled Dawn as she snatched her hand.

“Look all I want to say is that I’m sorry for crashing into you.”

“Oh yes. And look where it got us into," scoffed Dawn as she continued walking. Hyper grabbed his bag and walked next to her.

“I feel bad.”

“Well, you should be.”

“How about I take you out after detention? As an apology.”

Dawn looked at him and smirked, “Sure. You look pretty cute.”

Dawn smirked even more as Hyper’s face turned red.

“I-I should be saying that to you.”

Dawn stopped and stared at him. Cute? Since when did anyone call her cute? Badass, fire princess, bitch, the girl who can kick ass was the names she was called constantly.

“I’m not cute,” huffed Dawn as she shoved the pink slip in her bag. Hyper watches her and smiles.

“Well, you’re cute to me. Beautiful actually.”

Dawn felt her face turn red and looks away, “Whatever. Is that what you say to all the girls to get what you want?”

Hyper chuckles as he goes closer to her and tugs her hair gently.

“No. Only you.”

Dawn blushes slightly as she stops him from tugging her hair again.

“Fine. I’ll go with you,” Dawn smiled slyly as she reaches up and plants a kiss on his cheek and walks away. She looks back and sees Hyper smiling and his hand on the spot where she’d kissed him. Dawn chuckles and winks. For the first time in her life, she was actually looking forward to going to detention today.
